The Prairie Band Potawatomi Indian Reservation, located near the center of the county, comprises about 18.5% of the county’s area. The county seat is Holton. As of 2013, the county has a population of 13366. The county has a total area of 658 square miles, 656 square miles of which is land, and 1.8 square miles is water.
