Jackson County is located in the state of Kansas. The county was formed in February 11, 1859 and named after President Andrew Jackson. The Prairie Band Potawatomi Indian Reservation, located near the center of the county, comprises about 18.5% of the county’s area. The county seat is Holton. As of 2013, the county has a population of 13366. The county has a total area of 658 square miles, 656 square miles of which is land, and 1.8 square miles is water. The county consists of 16 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 66436 recorded as the one with the largest population. Jackson County borders the following counties: Shawnee County, Kansas to the south; Atchison County, Kansas to the east; Pottawatomie County, Kansas to the west; Brown County, Kansas to the northeast; Nemaha County, Kansas to the northwest, and; Jefferson County, Kansas to the southeast.
