Geary County is a county located in the state of Kansas. The county was formed in 1855. Named after John W. Geary, an early Governor of the Kansas Territory, the county seat is Junction City and it has a population of 37384 as of 2013. The county has a total area of 404 square miles, with its land area encompassing 385 square miles, and its water area 20 square miles. Geary County Clerk Information

The County Clerk serves as the official secretary for the Board of the County Commissioners. The Clerk records Commissioner Meeting Minutes. The Clerk has various duties relating to property tax levies and tax roll preparation; all school districts, cities, townships and other taxing authorities must file their budgets with the Clerk. All land records of the County are maintained by the Clerk and each transfer of real estate is properly recorded in the transfer record for taxation purposes.

Register of Deeds

The Register of Deeds office is responsible for the filing of deeds. In addition to the recording of deeds, the office of Register of Deeds records a diverse range of very technical documents. The Recorder is required to record all documents submitted by the public which are qualified to be recorded; maintain an up-to-date and accurate set of indexes which show the correct ownership of land in the entire county; and perform all functions of a clerical and technical nature to accomplish that objective.

The Tract Index information is available online via the Tract Index Search Web Module. You must be a Registered User to access this information online. To become a registered user please contact the Register of Deeds. This is not available, however, for general use of the public.

The Staff in the appraiser’s department works with the public to provide appraisals on real estate properties and personal properties. They are required by law to locate, list and appraise property within Geary County.

The Clerk of the District Court office is responsible for keeping records on all cases filed with the Court concerning the following: Marriage Licenses, Traffic Tickets, Fish & Game Citations, Probate, Criminal, Small Claims, Limited Civil, Civil, Juvenile, Adoption, Care & Treatment, Domestic Relations, Child Support, and payments for court costs, fines, and fees.

The Kansas Open Records Act allows you to inspect and obtain copies of public records maintained by Kansas courts, as long as those records are not exempt from disclosure. Some case information is available online through appellate case search or district case search (fee-based). Many records maintained by Kansas courts are open for inspection. More commonly requested records include court case files and transcripts, final judgments from civil and criminal cases, court budgets, and certified oaths of office.
