Doniphan County is located in the state of Kansas. The county was formed in August 25, 1855 and named after U.S. cavalry commander Colonel Alexander W. Doniphan (1808–1887) of Liberty, Missouri, who played an important part in the Mexican-American War. The county seat is Troy. As of 2013, the county has a population of 7851. The county has a total area of 398 square miles, 393 square miles of which is land, and 4.9 square miles is water. The county consists of 10 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 66090 recorded as the one with the largest population.
