Bourbon County is located in the state of Kansas. The county was formed in August 25, 1855 and named after Bourbon County, Kentucky. The county seat is Fort Scott. As of 2013, the county has a population of 14852. The county has a total area of 639 square miles, 635 square miles of which is land, and 3.6 square miles is water. The county consists of 12 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 66701 recorded as the one with the largest population. Bourbon County borders the following counties: Linn County, Kansas to the north; Crawford County, Kansas to the south; Vernon County, Missouri to the east; Allen County, Kansas to the west; Anderson County, Kansas to the northwest, and; Neosho County, Kansas to the southwest.

Bourbon County Clerk Information

The Bourbon County Clerk performs the following duties:

Serves as Secretary to the Board of County Commissioners
Prepares annual budgets for most townships and fire districts and all cemeteries, watersheds and light districts in the County.
Receives and compiles all budgets submitted by County entities, cities, townships, the community college, school districts, and all special districts.
Prepares real estate, personal property, and state assessed tax roll, including special assessments, and certifies to County Treasurer.
Carries out all elections and certifies to the Secretary of State; maintains voter database; accepts filings for public office
Serves as the County Freedom of Information Officer.
Maintains fixed asset inventory for the County

The KSCAMA data is available online for searching parcels. There are three search levels available; one for the Public and two for Registered Users. The Public search level displays a comprehensive list of information, but rather limited compared to information for Registered Users.
The Records Management Imaging System (RMIS) is available for online searches. There is a fee for this service. Records are available from 1993 to the present. The Bourbon County Clerk is the designated contact person for requests made under the Kansas Open Records Act. To request open records, fill out an Open Records Request Form and send it by email.
