Barber County is a county located in the state of Kansas. The county was formed in February 26, 1867. Named after Thomas Barber, an abolitionist who was killed in Douglas County in 1855 during the Wakarusa War, the county seat is Medicine Lodge and it has a population of 4947 as of 2013. The county has a total area of 1136 square miles, with its land area encompassing 1134 square miles, and its water area 2.1 square miles.
