Pocahontas County, Iowa Overview

Pocahontas County, Iowa was established in 1851 and named after the Native American princess form Jamestown, VA. As of the 2010 census the population was 7,310. Pocahontas is both the largest community and county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 579 square miles, of which 577 square miles is land and 1.4 square miles is water. Four Iowa counties border Pocahontas, they are Humboldt to the east, Webster to the southeast, Calhoun to the south, and Buena Vista to the west.
