Mills County, Iowa Overview

Mills County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa, and it was established in 1851. Its name comes from Major Frederick Mills, who was from Burlington, IA and was killed during the Mexican American War. The county seat is also the largest community in the county, Glenwood. The county, which has a total area of 441 square miles borders against the state of Nebraska and two counties in that state, Cass to the southwest, and Sarpy to the west. Of the 441 square mile area, 437 is land the remaining four-square miles is water. Three additional Iowa counties also border with Mills, and they are Pottawattamie too the north, Montgomery to the east, and Fremont to the south.
