Jones County, Iowa Overview

Jones County is a county located in the state of Iowa. As of the 2010 census, the population was 20,638. The county seat, and largest community is Anamosa. The county was founded in 1837 and named after George Wallace Jones, a US Senator and member of Congress. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 577 square miles, of which 576 square miles is land and 1.4 square miles is water. The county is home to several parks: Wapsipinicon State Park – Anamosa, Central Park, Pictured Rocks County Park, Wapsipinicon State Park, Whitewater Canyon and Mon-Maq Dam. Neighboring counties include: Delaware to the northwest, Dubuque to the northeast, Jackson to the east, Clinton to the southeast, Cedar to the south, and Linn to the west.
