Harrison County, Iowa Overview

Harrison County, located in the U.S. state of Iowa, had a population of 14,928 as of the 2010 census. It was established in 1851 and named for William Henry Harrison, ninth POTUS. Although the county seat is Logan, the largest community in the county is Missouri Valley. The total square miles of area in the county is 702, with five of those square miles being water and the remaining is land. The county sits on the border with Nebraska and is neighbors with both Washington to the southwest and Burt to the northwest. The remaining three neighbor counties are all in Iowa, Crawford to the northeast, Shelby to the east, and Pottawattamie to the south. The county is also partially home to the nationally protected DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge. The county uses a total of 15 zip codes, the largest of which is 51555.
