Dickinson County, established in 1857 is a county located in Iowa. As of the 2010 census, the population was 16,667. The county seat, and largest community is Spirit Lake. The county is named in honor of Daniel S. Dickinson, a U.S. Senator for New York. The total area of the county is 404 square miles, 381 of which is land and the remaining 23 square miles is water. Iowa Great Lakes is in the county and is a popular vacation post. The lakes include West Okoboji Lake, East Okoboji Lake and Spirit Lake. Dickinson County is bordered to the north by Jackson County in Minnesota, to the east by Emmet County, IA, Clay County, IA lies to the south and Osceola County, IA to the west.
