Decatur County, IA, named for a hero in the War of 1812, Stephen Decatur, Jr. had a population of 8,457 as of the 2010 census. The county seat is Leon; however, Lamoni is the largest community. The county is made of 532 square miles of land, plus one square mile of water. Decatur is bordered to the southeast and southwest by two Missouri counties, Mercer and Harrison respectively.
