Vermillion County is located in the U.S. state of Indiana. The county was formed in 1824 and named after The Vermillion River. The county seat is Newport. Vermillion County borders the following counties: Warren County to the north; Fountain County to the northeast; Parke County to the southeast; Vigo County to the south; Vermillion County to the northwest and Edgar County to the southwest. Vermillion County Circuit Courts Clerk’s Office Information
The Clerk is known as the “Keeper of the Records”. The primary responsibility of the Circuit Courts Clerk is to develop, maintain, and store all court documentation for Circuit and Juvenile Courts. Other duties of the Clerk’s office are the collection and disbursement of court costs, fines, judgments, restitutions, and various miscellaneous fees. The Clerk also collects and disburses child support payments, processes new passport applications, issues marriage licenses and conducts all elections.

The recorder is a member of the county commission on public records, which has authority over the preservation or disposition of all public records maintained by the county. The primary function of the Recorder’s Office is to maintain permanent public records submitted for recording. These documents also called instruments, including but not limited to: mortgages, deeds, easements, liens, military discharges, subdivision plats, leases, public and private bonds, personal property, and powers of attorney.
