Fountain County is located in the U.S. state of Indiana. The county was formed in 1825 and named after Major James Fontaine, a hero of the American Revolutionary War. The county seat is Covington. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 16,880 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 397.88 square miles, of which 395.66 square miles is land and 2.22 square miles is water. Fountain County borders the following counties: Warren County to the northwest; Vermillion County to the southwest; Parke County to the south, and Montgomery County is to the east.
