Porter County is located in the U.S. state of Indiana. The county was formed in 1835 and named after Capt. David Porter, hero of the War of 1812. The county seat is Valparaiso. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2010, the county has a population of approximately 166,557 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 521.78 square miles of which 418.15 square miles is land and 103.63 square miles is water. Porter County borders the following counties: LaPorte County to the east; Starke County to the southeast; Jasper County to the south; Lake County to the west; Cook County, Illinois to the northwest, boundary in Lake Michigan and Berrien County, Michigan to the northeast, boundary in Lake Michigan. Porter County Recorder’s Office Information

The County Recorder’s Office responsibility is to maintain permanent public records of legal instruments involving real estate, deeds, mortgages, liens, leases, plats, military discharges, personal bonds, and several others.
