Newton County is located in the U.S. state of Indiana. The county was formed in 1859 and named after Sgt. John Newton, the hero of the American Revolutionary War. The county seat is Kentland. The County Assessor identifies; lists and evaluates the assessed value of all real and personal property within the county. The Assessor also provides assessments to the taxpayers, Oversees the General Reassessment process, discovers and identifies omitted property, calculates the total assessed value of each taxing district, calculates the assessed value of all real property in each taxing district, verifies and review the self-reported values of all personal property in each taxing district, and insures countywide uniform Property Assessment Equalization.
