Daviess County is located in the U.S. state of Indiana. The county was formed in 1818 and named after Colonel Joseph Hamilton Daveiss, a hero of the Battle of Tippecanoe. The county seat is Washington According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013; the county has a population of approximately 32,407 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 436.87 square miles, of which 429.49 square miles is land and 7.39 square miles is water. Daviess County borders the following counties: Greene County to the north; Martin County to the east; Dubois County to the southeast; Pike County to the southwest; and Knox County to the west.     The County Recorder was the first office created by the Constitution of the State of Indiana in 1816. The primary responsibility of the County Recorder is to record instruments submitted for recording and maintain those records.
