Mercer County, Illinois Overview

Mercer County is located in the state of Illinois. Named after Hugh Mercer (1726–1777), a physician and general during the American Revolution who died from wounds suffered at the Battle of Princeton, the county was formed in January 13, 1825 and its county seat is Aledo. The county has a total population of 16178, as of 2013, with its area spanning 569 square miles (land area being 561 square miles, while water area being 7.5 square miles). Mercer County Clerk Information

For vital record requests, the County Clerk requires a copy of your photo ID for certified copies, a written request accompanied with a signature and address, and proof of relationship in the written request (simply state your relationship to the person whose document you are requesting). You may send your request by mail accompanied by payment for fees. Birth records requests require the full name of descendant (if possible), date of birth or a range of years to search by, and parents’ names; death records and marriage records requests require the two former information.

Court Clerk Information

The Circuit Clerk (Clerk of the Court) is the administrative arm of the County Court System. The Circuit Clerk’s office is “the keeper of the official record for each and every case brought before the court.” The office collects and disperses all monies owed to the court by defendants and filing fees from civil litigants.
