Will County, Illinois

Will County is located in the northern part of the state of Illinois. The county was formed on January 12, 1836, out of Cook County and Iroquois County. Will County is named after Dr. Conrad Will, a politician and also a businessman involved in salt production in southern Illinois. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 677,560 people, making it the fourth-most populous county in Illinois. It covers a total area of 849 square miles, of which 12 square miles is water and 837 square miles is land. The county seat is joliet. Will County borders the following counties: DuPage County to the north; Cook County to the northeast; Lake County, Indiana, to the east; Kankakee County to the south; Grundy County to the southwest; Kendall County to the west; and Kane County to the northwest.
