White County is located in the state of Illinois. The county was formed in 1815 and named after either Captain Leonard White or Captain Isaac White. The county seat is Carmi. As of 2013, the county has a population of 14549. The county has a total area of 502 square miles, 495 square miles of which is land, and 7.1 square miles is water. The county consists of 10 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 62821 recorded as the one with the largest population. White County borders the following counties: Edwards County, Illinois to the north; Gallatin County, Illinois to the south; Posey County, Indiana to the east; Hamilton County, Illinois to the west; Gibson County, Indiana to the northeast; Wayne County, Illinois to the northwest, and; Saline County, Illinois to the southwest.

The County Clerk plays the following roles:
