Wayne County is located in the state of Illinois. The county was formed in 1819 and named after Gen. “Mad Anthony” Wayne, an officer in the Revolutionary War and Northwest Indian War. The county seat is Fairfield. As of 2013, the county has a population of 16612. The county has a total area of 715 square miles, 714 square miles of which is land, and 1.7 square miles is water.
