Logan County is located in the state of Illinois. The county was formed in February 15, 1839 and named after John A. Logan. The county seat is Lincoln. As of 2013, the county has a population of 29964. The county has a total area of 619 square miles, 618 square miles of which is land, and 0.9 square miles is water. The county consists of 20 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 62656 recorded as the one with the largest population. Logan County borders the following counties: Tazewell County, Illinois to the north; Sangamon County, Illinois to the south; DeWitt County, Illinois to the east; Menard County, Illinois to the west; McLean County, Illinois to the northeast; Mason County, Illinois to the northwest, and; Macon County, Illinois to the southeast.

The County Clerk is the keeper of the official seal of the County, Clerk of the County Board, keeper of vital statistics, marriage licenses, assumed names, tax extensions, delinquent taxes and the Logan County Election Authority.

The Logan County Clerk’s Office will issue certificates to authorized individuals only. To request a copy of any vital record, a corresponding request form is available for download in their website. There are request forms available for birth, death, marriage and civil union certificates. All forms require to be included with a photocopy of your ID, cash, personal check, or money order as fee for the record requested, and a return address. Acceptable forms of identification are a photocopy of any of the following: valid driver’s license, valid state issued ID, valid US passport, and a valid military ID.

The Circuit Clerk’s primary function is to establish, maintain and keep all records of the court and the official court seal. In addition, the Court Clerk serves as the administrative arm of the Court and is responsible for all financial duties relating to the Court system.
