LaSalle County, Illinois

LaSalle County is located in the north central region of the state of Illinois. The county was formed on January 15, 1831, out of Tazewell County and Putnam County and named after René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle and early French explorer. Ottawa is the largest city in the county and also the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 113,924 people and a total area of 1,148 square miles, of which 13 square miles is water and 1,135 square miles is land, making LaSalle County the second-largest county in Illinois by land area and the fourth-largest by total area. LaSalle County borders the following counties: Lee County to the northwest, DeKalb County to the north, Kendall County to the northeast, Grundy County to the east, Livingston County to the southeast, Woodford County to the south, Marshall County to the southwest, Putnam County to the west, and Bureau County to the west.
