Power County, Idaho Overview
Power County is located in the U.S. state of Idaho. The county was formed in 1913 and named after the American Falls Power Plant. The county seat is American Falls. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 7,719 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,443 square miles, of which 1,404 square miles is land and 38 square miles is water. Power County borders the following counties: Bannock County to the east; Oneida County to the south; Bingham County to the north; Blaine County to the northwest; and Cassia County to the southwest. Power County’s Clerk of the District Court, Ex-Officio Auditor and Recorder’s Office Information
As ex-officio Auditor, the County Clerk is responsible to draw warrants, examine and settle debts to the county, maintain accounts current with the Treasurer, issue an annual financial statement of the county, and perform other duties as constituted by Idaho Law.
As ex-officio Recorder, the duties of the Clerk is recording deeds, grants, transfers and mortgages or real estate, releases of mortgages, powers of attorney, leases, transcripts of judgments or decrees, marriage contracts, marriage certificates, wills, official bonds, notices of mechanics’ liens, notices of preemption claims, certified copies of any petition, and other legal documents as permitted or required by law.
As Auditor of Power County, the Clerk is responsible for payroll, accounts payable, turnover to the taxing districts, inventory, budget process, managing fund balances, quarterly and year-end reports, employee benefits and file management, accounts receivable, internal department auditing, reconciling monthly statements, levies, and indigent assistance.
As Recorder of Power County, the responsibilities and duties of the Clerk is the Recording of all county documents, which include deeds, mortgages, liens, judgments, etc. After recording the documents, the recorded instruments are microfilmed and indexed.
Other duties of the Clerk are issuing marriage licenses, alcohol licenses, accepting passport applications, preparing and mailing all county bills, and maintaining all county records for public use such as survey plats, subdivision plats, etc.
The Clerk is also the Chief Election Official of the county and is responsible for voter registrations and administering all primary, general and special district elections.
