Lewis County is located in the U.S. state of Idaho. The county was formed in 1911 and named after Meriwether Lewis, a leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The county seat is Nezperce. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 3,902 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 480 square miles, of which 479 square miles is land and 0.9 square miles is water. Lewis County borders the following counties: Nez Perce County to the northwest; Idaho County to the southeast; and Clearwater County to the northeast. Lewis County has seven zip codes. In order to obtain a marriage license in Lewis County, the applicants must apply together, in person, at the County Clerk’s office. Both parties must present their state-issued picture ID, military ID, or passport, and know their social security number
