Gem County, Idaho Overview

Gem County is located in the U.S. state of Idaho. The county was formed in 1915 and named after the state’s nickname which is “Gem”. The county seat is Emmett. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 16,686 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 566 square miles, of which 561 square miles is land and 4.8 square miles is water. It is the fifth-smallest county in Idaho by area. Gem County borders the following counties: Adams County to the north; Valley County to the northeast; Boise County to the east; Ada County to the south; Canyon County to the southwest; Payette County to the west; and Washington County to the northwest. Gem County has seven zip codes. The zip codes are 83607, 83616, 83617, 83629, 83636, 83657, and 83670. The most populated zip code is 83617.

Gem County Clerk Office Information

The County Clerk issues birth and death certificates, liquor licenses, marriage licenses, and handle passports. The County Clerk is also the Chief Election Official of the county and is responsible for registering voters, administering all elections, managing the election calendar, publishing election results, fixing election polling places, etc. Other duties of the County Clerk is recording, indexing and filing land deeds, deeds of trust, mortgages, judgments, and all kinds of transactions that affect business and real estate within the county.
