Gem County, Idaho Overview

Gem County is located in the U.S. state of Idaho. The county was formed in 1915 and named after the state’s nickname which is “Gem”. The county seat is Emmett. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 16,686 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 566 square miles, of which 561 square miles is land and 4.8 square miles is water. It is the fifth-smallest county in Idaho by area. Gem County borders the following counties: Adams County to the north; Valley County to the northeast; Boise County to the east; Ada County to the south; Canyon County to the southwest; Payette County to the west; and Washington County to the northwest. Gem County Clerk Office Information

The County Clerk issues birth and death certificates, liquor licenses, marriage licenses, and handle passports.
