Bingham County, Idaho Overview

Bingham County is located in the U.S. state of Idaho. The county was formed in 1885 and named after Henry H. Bingham, a general in the American Civil War and a U.S. Congressman from Pennsylvania. The county seat is Blackfoot. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 45,290 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,120 square miles, of which 2,094 square mile. s is land and 26 square miles is water. Bingham County borders the following counties: Jefferson County to the north; Bonneville County to the east; Caribou County to the southeast; Bannock County to the south; Power County to the southwest; Blaine County to the west; and Butte County to the northwest. Bingham County Clerk Office Information

The Clerk’s office is considered the hub of the county government serving both public and other county departments. The main responsibilities of the Clerk’s office is recording and maintaining documents relating to property, issuing marriage licenses, processing applications for passports, voter registration and conducting county elections.

The Clerk also serves as the as Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, takes notes of all Commissioner Proceedings, maintains their daily agenda, and preserves copies of all contracts, resolutions, and ordinances signed by the Commissioners. Other responsibilities of the Clerk is taking applications for indigent services, investigating the applications and making recommendations to the Commissioners to approve or deny it.

As the Clerk of the District Court, the Clerk’s office provides support to the courts. The deputy court clerks are responsible for managing all civil and criminal cases presided over by Magistrate and District Court judges.
