Honolulu County, formerly Oahu County, is a consolidated city–county located in the state of Hawaii. The City and County includes both the city of Honolulu and the rest of the island of Oʻahu. The consolidated city-county was established in the city charter adopted in 1907 and accepted by the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaiʻi. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 953,201 people and a total area of 2,128 square miles, of which 1,527 square miles is water and 601 square miles is land. Honolulu County borders Maui County to the southeast and Kauai County to the northwest.
