Walton County, Georgia
Walton County is located in north central Georgia and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. As of 2010, the population was 83,768. The county was established in 1818 and is named for George Walton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Georgia Governor, and U.S. Senator. The total area of the county is 330 square miles. The county seat is Monroe, situated in the center of the area.
The Walton County Clerk of the Superior Court is divided into three main divisions, with each division assigned its own responsibilities:
CIVIL DIVISION
The Civil Division is responsible for filing, processing, maintaining and responding to requests relating to civil records for the Superior Court. The Civil Division also manages appeal records.
CRIMINAL DIVISION
The Criminal division files misdemeanor and felony criminal cases. This includes filing accusations, indictments, citations, warrants and all other relative pleadings.
REAL ESTATE
The Real Estate division records all land transactions within Walton County. Land records maintained by the division date back to 1818. In addition, the division also maintains records relating to Armed Service discharges, liens, land plats, and Uniform Commercial Code records.
