Upson County is located in the state of Georgia. The county was formed in December 15, 1824 and named after Stephen Upson. The county seat is Thomaston. As of 2010, the county has a population of 27,153. The county has a total area of 328 square miles, 323 square miles of which is land, and 4.1 square miles is water. Upson Clerk Of Superior Court Information

The Clerk of Court is a Constitutional Elected Officer elected by the voters of their county to serve a four-year term. The Clerk of Superior Court and all employees are first and foremost public servants each and every day. The office of the Clerk of Superior Court performs a wide range of record keeping, information management and financial management functions in the judicial system. This office also provides court support to each superior court judge. In general, the Clerk’s responsibilities as mandated by the Georgia State Code are to:

  • File, record and index all documents related to real estate and personal property transactions in the county.
  • To attend to the needs of the court in the performance of the duties of the clerk
  • To file and maintain criminal and civil dockets as well as dockets on domestic suits
  • To keep in the Clerk’s office all documents, records, microfilm and dockets and all other things required by the Georgia Codes
  • To perform all other duties required by Georgia Law under code section 15-6-61

Upson Tax Assessor Information

The State Legislature, Department of Revenue and the Department of Audits administer procedure that govern the overall function of the Upson County Tax Assessor’s Office. The Office manages the information for the 15,000 plus parcels of real property and 1,400 personal property accounts in Upson County.

The County Board of Tax Assessors, appointed for fixed terms by the county commissioner(s) in all counties except one, is responsible for determining taxability, value and equalization of all assessments within the county. The County Board of Tax Assessors notifies taxpayers when changes are made to the value of the property; receive and review all appeals filed; and insures that the appeal process proceeds properly. In addition, they approve all exemptions claimed by the taxpayer.
