Muscogee County, Georgia
Muscogee County located on the central western border of the state of Georgia. The county was created on June 9, 1826, and named after the native Muscogee or Creek people. Columbus is the county seat and only city in the county, with which it has been a consolidated city-county since the beginning of 1971. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 189,885 people and a total area of 221 square miles, of which 4.6 square miles is water and 216 square miles is land. Muscogee County borders the following counties: Harris County to the north; Talbot County to the northeast; Chattahoochee County to the south; Russell County, Alabama, to the southwest; and Lee County, Alabama, to the west.
