Fayette County, Georgia

Fayette County is located in the state of Georgia; the county was created May 15, 1821, and named after Marquis de Lafayette, French hero of the American Revolutionary War. The county seat is Fayetteville, which is located on the Flint River. According to the U.S. Census in 2010, the county has a population of 106,567 people and a total area of 199 square miles, of which 5.0 square miles is water and 194 square miles is land. Fayette County borders the following counties: Fulton County to the north, Clayton County to the east, Spalding County to the south, and Coweta County to the west.

Sheila Studdard is the Fayette County Clerk of Courts in 2015; she was first elected to serve as Fayette County’s Clerk of Courts in 2000. The Clerk of the Court is responsible for:

  • Filing, recording, and indexing all documents related to real estate, including deeds, plats, and liens, within Fayette County.
