DeKalb County, Georgia

DeKalb County is a county located in the state of Georgia. The county was formed on December 9, 1822 from Henry, Gwinnett, and Fayette counties. It was named after Baron Johann de Kalb, a German soldier who fought in the American Revolutionary War for the Continental Army. Its county seat is Decatur. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 691,892 and a total area of 271 square miles, of which 3.6 square miles is water and 268 square miles is land. DeKalb County borders the following counties: Gwinnett County to the north, Rockdale County to the east, Henry County to the south, Clayton County to the southwest, and Fulton County to the west.
