Clinch Clerk of Court Information

The Clerk of Superior Court is elected by the voters for four-year terms. The Clerk of Superior Court is responsible for maintaining court records, recording real estate transactions such as warranty deeds, quit claim deeds, security deeds, assignments, right of way deeds, easements, and property plats. Records FIFA’s and military discharges. Collects fines, child support payments, and property transfer taxes. Files criminal cases and maintains criminal warrants. Files civil cases, such as, divorces/annulments, adoptions, name changes, and garnishments. Issues notary appointments. Assists in jury selection. Assists the general public with obtaining various court records. The Clerk of Superior Court also serves as Court Clerk to the Juvenile Courts of Clinch County.

Clinch Tax Assessor Information

The Board of Tax Assessor’s consists of no less than three nor more than five members appointed by the Board of Commissioners for a six year term. The Board of Tax Assessors oversees the Chief Appraiser Office and determines what property in the county is subject to taxation. Other duties include the following:

  • Prepares annual property tax assessments.
  • ​Examines and corrects errors in all real and personal property returns.
  • Ensures that all property is returned for taxes at fair valuation and that valuations between individual taxpayers are fairly equalized.
  • Hears property taxpayer appeals regarding property tax valuations.
  • Maintains county tax records and maps.
  • Inspects mobile homes located in the county to ensure that the proper decals are attached.
  • Adheres to the policies set by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
  • Assists the Board of Tax Equalization.
  • The Assessor’s Office also handles the county building permits for new construction, new mobile home placement and works with the Building Inspector on the required building code inspections.

The Official Code of Georgia Title 48-5-264.1 requires advance notice to property owners when members of the appraisal staff visit property on official business. This is to inform the taxpayers that they will be out in the county and city reviewing mobile homes, building permits and tax returns from January 20th until April 1st 2018.
