Camden County, Georgia

Camden County is located in the southeastern corner of the state of Georgia. The county is one of the original counties of Georgia, created on February 5, 1777. St. Marys is the largest city in the county, while the county seat is Woodbine.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 50,513 people and a total area of 782 square miles, of which 169 square miles is water and 613 square miles is land. Camden County borders the following counties: Glynn County to the north; Nassau County, Florida, to the south; Charlton County to the southwest; and Brantley County to the northwest.

The Camden County Clerk is the official county recorder of all actions taken by the Board of County Commissioners. In addition to indexing and maintaining public records, the County Clerk is also responsible for preparing minutes and board meeting notebooks, preparing and publishing agendas, and distributing the board actions to the constitutional officers. Other duties of the Clerk include assuring compliance with the Open Records Act and providing requested information to the public regarding records of the Board of County Commissioners as part of public records.

Under the Georgia Open Records Act, the public can inspect and copy public records unless they are specifically exempted from disclosure under the law. As a result, public records in the county can be obtained by visiting the county clerk’s office in person during office hours or by doing a free public record search online.
