Walton County, Florida
Walton County is located in the state of Florida. The county was formed on December 29, 1824, and named after George Walton, Secretary of the Florida territory from 1821 to 1826. Its county seat is DeFuniak Springs. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 55,043 people and a total area of 1,240 square miles, of which 202 square miles is water and 1,038 square miles is land. The county is one of the largest in size in the state of Florida; it stretches from the Alabama state line to the Emerald Coast. Walton County borders the following counties: Covington County, Alabama, to the northwest; Geneva County, Alabama, to the northeast; Holmes County, Florida, to the east; Washington County, Florida, to the east; Bay County, Florida, to the southeast; and Okaloosa County, Florida to the west.
