Okaloosa County, Florida

Okaloosa County is located in the state of Florida; the county was created by an act passed on June 3, 1915. Okaloosa is a word from the Choctaw language meaning “black water”. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 180,822 people and a total area of 1,082 square miles. Its county seat is Crestview. Okaloosa County borders the following counties: Covington County, Alabama, to the north; Walton County, Florida, to the east; Santa Rosa County, Florida, to the west; and Escambia County, Alabama, to the northwest.

The Okaloosa County Clerk of Circuit Court and Comptroller’s Recording Department deals with all the county records. The department performs a number of functions, including issuing marriage licenses, processing US passport applications, recording documents into the Official Records, assisting in public records searches, and processing tax deed applications.
