Nassau County, Florida

Nassau County is located in the state of Florida; the county was formed on December 29, 1824 and named after the Duchy of Nassau in Germany. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 73,314 people and a total area of 726 square miles. Nassau County borders the following counties: Camden County, Georgia, to the north; Duval County to the south; Baker County to the southwest; and Charlton County, Georgia, to the west.

The Nassau County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller is the official county recorder. As the county recorder, the office is responsible for recording and indexing mortgages, deeds, and descriptions of all county property; processing tax deed applications and conducting sales; recording public defender judgments and liens entered by the court; recording tax liens and claims against an estate, agreements, contracts, maps, instruments of conveyance, and plats of subdivisions and surveys; and maintaining a public microfilm library. Other duties of the Clerk of the Circuit Court include solemnizing marriages upon request and processing marriage license applications, providing compiled statistical data for State of Florida agencies, and serving as the central depository for court ordered child support and alimony payments.

To access records, you will have to do a public records search online through the Nassau County Clerk of the Circuit Court website. The website is informative and, in addition to records, you can also view the fee schedule applicable when requesting public records. The other way to obtain public records is by visiting the clerk’s office in person; you will be required to submit the a records request form. The form can be picked from the clerk’s office or downloaded from the county’s website. The fee applicable is same as when requesting records online.

In order to obtain a marriage license in Nassau County, the applicants must apply together, in person, at the County Clerk’s office. Both parties must present their state-issued picture ID, military ID, or passport, and know their social security number
