Martin County, Florida
Martin County is located in the state of Florida; the county was formed on May 30, 1925 and named after John W. Martin, Governor of Florida from 1925 to 1929. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 146,318 people and a total area of 753 square miles. Although Palm City is the largest municipality, the county seat is Stuart, which is located in the northeast part of the area. It was named in honor of a local landowner, Homer Hine Stuart, Jr., in 1895. Its nickname is “Sailfish Capital of the World” because of the abundance of sailfish found in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast.
