Citrus County is located in the state of Florida; the county was created on June 2, 1887 and named after the county’s citrus groves. Inverness is the county seat, while the largest community is Homosassa Springs. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 141,236 people and a total area of 773 square miles.

The Citrus County Clerk of Court, Records Department has the responsibility of maintaining records in the county. Records maintained by the Clerk of Court’s office include but are not limited to birth records, divorce records, death records, mining notices, subdivision plats, surveys, personal property related documents, tax liens, deeds of trust, family trusts, real estate transactions, and mortgages.

Images of Official Records can be accessed through the internet and by on-site research through the records department. To do a public records search online, you will have to visit the Citrus County Records Department Website. The website has easy to follow steps and links that will direct you to the records that are available. In addition, the website has the fee schedule applicable when requesting records. Only those images authorized by Florida Statute to be made publicly available can be accessed via the website.

The other way to obtain public records is by visiting the records department in person. There are public access research stations located at the Clerk’s satellite location in Crystal River. The fee applicable is the same as when requesting records online. Alternatively, you can call the records department at (352) 341-6424; though you cannot access records through the phone, it is a sure way to obtain information about public records.

In order to obtain a marriage license in Citrus County, the applicants must apply together, in person, at the County Clerk’s office. Both parties must present their state-issued picture ID, military ID, or passport, and know their social security number
