San Miguel County, Colorado Overview
San Miguel County is located in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county was formed in 1883 and named after the San Miguel River. The county seat is Telluride. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 7,678 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,289 square miles, of which 1,287 square miles is land and 2.0 square miles is water. San Miguel County borders the following counties: Montrose County to the north; Ouray County to the east; San Juan County to the southeast; Dolores County to the south; and San Juan County, Utah to the west. San Miguel County has seven zip codes. The zip codes are 81325, 81423, 81426, 81430, 81431, 81432, and 81435. The most populated zip code is 81435.
San Miguel County Clerk and Recorder Office Information
The Clerk’s Office provides a variety of services for the citizens of San Miguel County, which include motor vehicles licensing, issuing marriage licenses, liquor licenses, and document recording. The Clerk also acts as the Local Registrar, providing birth and death certificates. The County Clerk and Recorder is also the Chief Election Official of the County, and is responsible for voter registrations and administering all kinds of elections in the county including primary, general, and special district elections. The County Clerk and Recorder also serves as the Clerk to the board of commissioners.
The recording fee has been fixed at $13.00 for the first page and $5.00 for each per subsequent page for General Real Estate Recording. The recording fees for other documents are given below:
- $15 per page plus $3 surcharge per document for plats recorded in Real Estate
- $25 for 1st page and $15 for each additional page in Surveyor’s Records
- $13 for UCC documents 1 to 2 pages and must have property on document
- $18 for UCC documents of 3 pages or more and must have property on the document
