Saguache County is located in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county was formed in 1866 and named after the Ute language word Saguache, which means “sand dunes” in English. The county seat is Saguache. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 6,208 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,170 square miles, of which 3,169 square miles is land and 1.7 square miles is water. Saguache County borders the following counties: Chaffee County to the north; Fremont County to the northeast; Custer County to the east; Huerfano County to the southeast; Rio Grande County to the south; Alamosa County to the south; Mineral County to the southwest; Hinsdale County to the southwest; and Gunnison County to the northwest. Saguache County Clerk and Recorder Office Information

The County Clerk and Recorder is an authorized agent of the State Department of Revenue, and is responsible for certification of automobile titles, motor vehicle registration, and issuing license plates.
The Clerk maintains the records and books of the Board of County Commissioners. The Clerk is also responsible for the recording, indexing and preserving of all public records. The Clerk is also responsible to furnish recorded documents upon request. The Clerk is the Chief Election Official for the County and is responsible for the conduct of primary, general and some special elections held in the County. The Clerk is also responsible for voter registrations, appointing election judges, printing, distribution, and tallying of ballots. The Clerk also issues marriage licenses, liquor licenses, birth/death certificates, and civil union licenses and collects a multitude of license fees.
