Moffat County is located in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county was formed in 1893 and named after railroad pioneer David H. Moffat. The county seat is Craig. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 13,103 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,751 square miles, of which 4,743 square miles is land and 7.6 square miles is water. It is the second-largest county by area in Colorado. Moffat County borders the following counties: Routt County to the east; Rio Blanco County to the south; Uintah County, Utah to the west; Daggett County, Utah to the west; Sweetwater County, Wyoming to the north; and Carbon County, Wyoming to the north. Moffat County Clerk and Recorder Office Information
The Clerk and Recorder’s Office is responsible for issuing and recording marriage licenses, issuing liquor licenses, titling and registering all motor vehicles, and issuing license plates in the county. The Clerk and Recorder’s Office is also responsible for recording all real estate transactions, registering voters, conducting all primary, general, county elections, municipal and school district elections. The Clerk and Recorder’s Office also operates the Motor Vehicle Division for titling vehicles and issuing license plates. The Recording Department of Moffat County is responsible for recording and maintaining documents related to mortgages, federal tax liens, deeds, releases, maps, and other kinds of legal documents.
