Lincoln County, Colorado Overview

Lincoln County is located in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county was formed in 1889 and named after Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States. The county seat is Hugo. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 5,430 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,586 square miles, of which 2,578 square miles is land and 8.8 square miles is water. Lincoln County borders the following counties: Washington County to the north; Kit Carson County to the east; Cheyenne County to the east; Crowley County to the south; Kiowa County to the south; Elbert County to the west; El Paso County to the west; Arapahoe County to the northwest; and Pueblo County to the southwest. Lincoln County Clerk and Recorder Office Information

The Clerk and Recorder’s Office is responsible for issuing and recording marriage licenses, registering and titling motor vehicles, registration renewals, issuance of temporary permits, printing of duplicate titles, registration of Special Mobile Machinery (SMM), etc. The County Clerk and Recorder is also the Chief Election Official of the county and is responsible for registering voters and holding all primary, general and county elections. The County Clerk and Recorder also records documents such as sale and purchase of property, UCC Financing Statements, affidavits, oil and gas documents, marriage licenses, military discharge papers, etc. for public records purpose. The recording fee is $13.00 for the first page and $5 for each additional page for most documents. For UCCs, the recording fee is $13.00 for documents consisting of one or two pages and $18.00 for documents consisting of three or more pages.
