Delta County is located in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county was formed in 1883 and named after the town of Delta situated in the delta of the Uncompahgre River. The county seat is Delta. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,149 square miles, of which 1,142 square miles is land and 6.5 square miles is water. Delta County borders the following counties: Gunnison County to the east; Montrose County to the south; and Mesa County to the northwest. Delta County has eight zip codes. The County Clerk serves as the Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners. The duties and responsibilities of the County Clerk are issuing marriage licenses, marriage certificates, birth certificates, death certificates, civil union licenses, liquor licenses, vehicle registrations and titling. The County Clerk is also the Chief Election Official of the county and is responsible for administering all primary, general, and special elections in the county, registering voters, etc. The County Clerk also records deeds, mortgages, tax liens, judgments, and other legal documents.
