Washington County, Colorado Overview

Washington County is located in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county was formed in 1887 and named after George Washington, the first President of the United States. The county seat is Akron. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 4,803 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,524 square miles, of which 2,518 square miles is land and 5.9 square miles is water. Washington County borders the following counties: Logan County to the northeast; Yuma County to the east; Kit Carson County to the southeast; Lincoln County to the southwest; Adams County to the west; Arapahoe County to the west; and Morgan County to the west. Washington County Clerk and Recorder Office Information

The Clerk and Recorder’s Office is responsible for voter registration, conducting all elections, and administering all election procedures. The Clerk serves as an agent for the State Department of Revenue to handle motor vehicle and driver’s license transactions, motor vehicle registrations, and titling. The Clerk and Recorder’s office issues marriage and civil union licenses, and grants liquor licenses. The Clerk also acts as clerk of the Board of County Commissioners.

The recording department’s responsibility is to process and preserve documents presented for recording for public record purposes. The recording department has records that date back to 1887. All records are assessable to the public and certified copies of any document of record are available for a fee.
