Teller County is located in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county was formed in 1899 and named after Henry Moore Teller, a U.S. Senator from Colorado and United States Secretary of the Interior. The county seat is Cripple Creek. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 23,275 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 559 square miles, of which 557 square miles is land and 1.9 square miles is water. Teller County borders the following counties: Douglas County to the north; Jefferson County to the north; El Paso County to the east; Fremont County to the south; and Park County to the west. The duties of the Clerk and Recorder’s Office are issuing marriage licenses, civil union licenses, dog licenses, liquor licenses, licensing and titling motor vehicles, and recording documents. The County Clerk and Recorder is also the Chief Election Official in Teller County and is responsible for voter registration, and holding all kinds of elections in the county including primary, general, and special district elections. The County Clerk serves as the clerk to the board of county commissioners for Teller County. The Clerk is also the official recorder of property and other legal documents for Teller County.
