Routt County is located in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county was formed in 1877 and named after John Long Routt, the first Governor of the State of Colorado. The county seat is Steamboat Springs. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 23,513 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,368 square miles, of which 2,362 square miles is land and 6.1 square miles is water. Routt County borders the following counties: Carbon County, Wyoming to the north; Jackson County to the east; Grand County to the southeast; Eagle County to the south; Garfield County to the south-southwest; Rio Blanco County to the southwest; and Moffat County to the west. The Clerk and Recorder’s Office is responsible for recording documents and plats in the public records and preserving images and indexes for those documents. The Clerk and Recorder also serves as the Clerk to the board of commissioners.
