Hinsdale County is located in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county was formed in 1874 and named after George Aaron Hinsdale, a Lieutenant Governor of the Territory of Colorado. The county seat is Lake City. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 813 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,123 square miles, of which 1,117 square miles is land and 5.9 square miles is water. Hinsdale County borders the following counties: Gunnison County to the north; Saguache County to the northeast; Mineral County to the east; Archuleta County to the southeast; La Plata County to the southwest; San Juan County to the west; and Ouray County to the northwest. Hinsdale County Clerk Office Information

The primary responsibilities of the Hinsdale County Clerk’s Office include but not limited to issuing marriage licenses and certificates, liquor licenses, vehicle titling and registration, providing election information, voter registration, and recording documents for public records purposes. The recording fee has been set at $13.00 for the first page, and $5.00 each additional page. To make copies of the recorded documents, it is ¢.25 per page (Letter), ¢.50 per page (Legal), and $5.00 per page (Plats). The documentary fee is ¢.01 per $100.00 of the purchase price if a sale is over $500. For Security, you are required to pay $5.00 per page up to legal size. For Agreement Filings, it is $10.00 per page over legal size. Faxing fees is $3.00 first three pages, and $1.00 each additional page. E-mailing fees is $3.00 first three pages, and $1.00 each extra page. The price for a marriage license is $30.00.
