Calaveras County, officially the County of Calaveras is located in the state of California. Named after the Calaveras River, the county was formed in February 18, 1850 and its county seat is San Andreas. The county has a total population of 44515, as of 2013, with its area spanning 1037 square miles (land area being 1020 square miles, while water area being 17 square miles). Calaveras County borders the following counties: Amador County, CA to the north; San Joaquin County, CA to the east; Alpine County, CA to the northeast; Stanislaus County, CA to the southwest, and; Tuolumne County, CA to the southeast.
