Amador County, officially the County of Amador is located in the state of California. The county was formed in May 11, 1854 and named after José María Amador, a soldier, rancher, and miner, born in San Francisco in 1794. The county seat is Jackson. As of 2013, the county has a population of 36519. The county has a total area of 606 square miles, 595 square miles of which is land, and 11.4 square miles is water. Amador County borders the following counties: El Dorado County, CA to the north; Calaveras County, CA to the south; Alpine County, CA to the east; Sacramento County, CA to the west, and; San Joaquin County, CA to the southwest.
